A Raisin in my Past

When I found out that I would be reading “A Raisin in the Sun” for class, a wave of recognition flooded me. I remembered that I had read it back in high school. Such a long time ago now; at least seven years. But what was surprising was that I remembered certain aspects of the play so vividly. I remembered when Beneatha was called queen of the Nile. I remembered when Walter used the word “tooken” a lot. My friend and I used to borrow his word to use as an inside joke. I remember Mama’s plant.

"The Walk" to Remember

http://www.biography.com/news/the-walk-philippe-petit-movie

I recently watched the film The Walk, directed by Robert Zemeckis. It was the true story of a French man's endeavors to achieve his dream: to string a rope between the twin towers in New York City and walk across it. While what he did was highly dangerous and illegal, the film focuses more on his determination and growth on the path to reaching his dream. It was a very uplifting story with a lot of heart.

Selma is the story of the efforts of the African-American population, spearheaded by Martin Luther King Jr., to attain legislation for equal voting rights for all through nonviolent protest. Determination, overcoming adversity, and solidarity are prevalent themes throughout the film. It is a vivid snapshot of an important event in the history of the United States.

Dogs and the Universe

An Old Friend (Photo by Kevin R.)

I recently read an essay titled "My Life as a Dog" by Jonathan Safran Foer. As I read, I found that I was agreeing with most of the points that he brought up in the writing. However, I found that the structure of the essay was less than ideal for getting any particular point across to the reader.

The Playlist of My Life

Sans (Original sprite by toby fox)

I made a playlist the other day. It was designed to be a sort of representation of myself, something I could play for others to introduce them to me. My Playlist:
